What you need
- A long balloon
- A straw
- String (3-5 metres)
- Tape
Setup
- Thread the string through the straw and stretch it tight between two fixed points
- Blow up the balloon without tying it and pinch it shut, then tape it to the straw
- Let go and watch the balloon rocket along the string

- Which direction does the air push the balloon?
- Does a bigger balloon go faster or slower than a smaller one?
- Can two balloon rockets race on side-by-side strings?
Ways to change it up
- Angle the string on a slope to test if it changes the speed
- Try different balloon shapes and compare distances
