What you need
- A clear plastic bottle (cut down, for a rain gauge)
- A ruler
- A paper plate and a straw (for a wind vane)
- A notebook for daily readings
Setup
- Cut down a bottle and mark measurement lines with a ruler to make a rain gauge
- Attach a paper arrow to a straw on a pivot to make a simple wind vane
- Set both outside somewhere open and check them at the same time each day

- How much rain fell overnight?
- Which way was the wind blowing this morning?
- Can you spot a pattern across the week in your notebook?
Ways to change it up
- Add a simple thermometer reading to the daily log
- Graph the week's rainfall on squared paper at the end
Safety notes
